Urgent Care Pet Appointments in Dallas, PA
Minor injuries and illness are not always conveniently timed, and if your pet is not themselves on the weekend, it might be difficult finding a veterinarian open. We, at Back Mountain
Veterinary Hospital in Dallas, PA, are proud to have a Sunday Urgent Care Clinic. We also offer call-ahead scheduling to help alleviate long wait times. We DO NOT take walk-ins on the weekend. Please call to schedule an appointment. We are NOT an ER. If it’s a true emergency, requiring Critical Care or 24 hour monitoring, please take your pet to an emergency clinic. We do not do anesthesia or surgery on the weekend. Please also understand that if we refer you to the ER it is because we believe it is in the best interest of your pet to be seen at a Veterinary Emergency Center where he or she can get more intensive care than we can give here. You can take your pet to the Northeast Veterinary Hospital in Plains at 242 South River Street, 570-208-8844 or the Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center in Clarks Summit at 318 Northern Blvd, 570-587-7777. Please see the examples listed below to see if your pet meets the guidelines for Sunday Urgent Care vs Emergency Care.
Urgent Non-critical health problems include, but are not limited to:
- Skin Infections
- Bladder Infections (if unable to urinate, take to ER)
- Ear Infections
- Dental Infections
- Eye Infections
- Diarrhea from dietary indiscretion ie. stealing table food, getting into the garbage, or eating grass (if you saw or suspect your pet ate a toy, socks, underwear, etc. please take to ER)
- Limping (not suspected to be a broken bone or requiring sedation to obtain diagnostic xrays)
- Torn toenails or MINOR lacerations
Established clients will be given priority over new clients, but you do not need to be an established client to be seen on a Sunday. We will fax over the records from your pet’s Sunday appointment to your regular veterinarian the next day.
Critical Care problems include, but are not limited to:
- Hit By Car
- Respiratory Distress (choking/labored breathing/white or blue gums or tongue)
- Acute Vomiting (Unable to hold down food or water)
- Broken bones
- Deep Punctures or Lacerations
- Ingestion of Poison
- Ingestion of Controlled Substances or Human Medications
- Seizures
- Loss of consciousness
- Inability to walk or stand
- Bleeding
- Trauma of any kind
If any health problems include Critical Care, oxygen therapy, or anesthesia for treatment and/or surgery, please take your pet to the emergency clinic. If you are unsure if your health concern qualifies as an emergency, please give us a call.
