Ria joined our Veterinary Hospital in November of 2022 after returning to PA from Texas. She had started her training to become a Certified Veterinary Technician back in 2018, at Johnson College before moving to Texas to gain further experience in Veterinary Medicine. Now that she has returned to PA, she hopes to enroll in the Penn Foster Technician Program to complete her certification training. Ria finds it very rewarding to assist in bringing sick animals back to health and really enjoys watching patients grow from puppy/kittenhood in happy, healthy adults. Her favorite part of the job though is phlebotomy and diagnostics. She hopes, after finishing school, to specialize in Cardiology or Diagnostics. For now, Ria is focused on raising her beautiful little daughter and her German Shepherd/Husky, Benelli. She relaxes by going for hikes or spontaneous trips.
Shelby came onboard at Back Mountain Vet in November of 2022 as a part-time Veterinary Assistant. She is working part-time right now because she is currently a full-time student in the Johnson College Veterinary Nursing Program, where she is President of the Vet Tech Club. Shelby is already a certified dog groomer, having earned her degree from the Paragon School of Pet Grooming. As you can see, she is a real go-getter, who hopes to go back to school to earn her Bachelors Degree in Animal Sciences. Shelby is also quite the people-person in addition to being an animal lover, so her favorite part of the job so far has been conversing with new clients and getting to know their pets personally. When not deep in her studies or hard at work, Shelby enjoys being outdoors on nature hikes with her Pitbull mix, Gemma. Whenever time allows, Shelby loves to travel, but since free time is limited, she splits her time with Gemma and her mini-lop/angora mix bunny, Tiffany.
Mia joined Back Mountain Vet right after Thanksgiving 2022. She comes with a degree in Pre-Vet Animal Science from Auburn University. Mia has a great love for all animals, but horses are her true passion. Her keen interest in Equine Sports Medicine enabled her to complete an internship with KESMARC for equine rehab. Mia enjoys getting to work with the variety of species we see here and is learning a lot about treating a wide range of health conditions every day. She has discovered that she finds respiratory and infectious disease treatment especially interesting. Mia hopes to take all of the knowledge she gains during her work here with her when she applies to Veterinary School. Her goal is to do a Residency in Equine Sports Medicine. It comes as no surprise then that horseback riding with her Oldenburg, Dottie or her Quarter Horse, Cash is how Mia likes to spend her free time. However, Mia is no “one trick pony,” so she also enjoys baking, cooking, and hanging out with her cat Figaro and her dog, Elle.
Kasey joined Back Mountain Vet in October 2022. She came to us from the human side of medicine, having gone through studying for RCA through Allied Technical School. Kasey is enjoying her training as Veterinary Assistant. She appreciates the responsibility of proper restraint techniques to keep the pets and her coworkers safe and comfortable. Kasey is a “hands-on-learner,” so getting to train with multiple staff members is allowing her the opportunity to hone her skills and learn proper techniques. Kasey hopes to continue to advance in her learning to really become an asset to the veterinary field.
When not at work, Kasey loves to get her creative juices flowing by cooking and baking. However, spending time just hanging out with her kids is her all-time favorite pastime.
Bonnie joined us back in April of 2005 as a Veterinary Assistant. We refer to her as “BonBon” because she is one of the sweetest people you will ever meet. Bonnie has always been a great team player, ready and willing to lend a hand wherever she is needed. At the start of her career with us, she loved working with all animals. Her friendly and upbeat personality kept both clients and pets at ease throughout the appointment. She enjoyed working with the clients and patients during routine appointments, but had a special interest in ultrasound and x-ray. These days Bonnie has moved into role of “General Overseer”. She keeps everything running smoothly by overseeing the inventory, keeping up with the laundry, and ensuring that the hospital is clean and sanitized. With as busy as this hospital is we simply couldn’t manage without her.
Family is very important to Bonnie so she works her schedule around assisting her parents and daughter. When not at work, Bonnie loves spending time with her daughter and her dogs, Patrick and Ginger. She also enjoys swimming, tanning and yard work. Clients and staff simply adore Bonnie. We are so lucky to have her here.
